Dreamwidth invite codes available
I have a handful of invite codes for Dreamwidth, the open source project I blogged about here and here that has about 75% female developers.
Overview:
- It’s a journalling service, forked off Livejournal
- 210k lines of code, mostly in Perl, both OO and otherwise, on the backend with Javascript, CSS, and HTML on the frontend
- Wiki here, bug tracker here
- Hosted development environments are provided
- Other vital statistics
- Their diversity statement is awesome.
If you’re interested in participating, especially if you are a woman who would like to join an open source project with a great culture of mutual respect and support, please leave a comment here with your email address.
ETA: I should make it clear… you need an invite code or a paid account to use the journalling service at http://dreamwidth.org/. This invite code will allow you to try out the journalling service for free. In theory, you wouldn’t need to join the journalling service in order to contribute to the open source project, but in practice people generally do.

Hi, I’m looking for an invite code. Thank you very much!!
Sure thing! Invite sent.
(Also sent two others to people who contacted me by email. One left!)
Actually, I take that back. I really have 4 left, because there are 3 people I invited about a month back who haven’t used their codes yet, so I’ll recycle them :)
Thank you! I’m so interested in finding a new “home”
Do you still have any extra invite codes available? I would really appreciate one. :]
Sure do! Just sent you one. Looking forward to seeing you over there.
How about me? Looks intriguing.
@Zru: sent!
I’d really love an invite code! :D
@Liser: Sent!
Any left invite codes left? :D
@Seth: Emailing you one now.
To future commenters: please tell me why you want one and what you’re planning to do with it! I will be attempting to prioritise for people who would like to get involved as coders/volunteers, especially women.
Thank you! (for the record, I am female ^ ^)
I’d like a code please. I want a site to share some of my writing. I’d also like to volunteer as this looks like an interesting project to be involved with.
@Susan: sent!
I’m very interested, please! :)
Ah, I forgot to add… I am a woman. I’d like a dreamwidth code because I’d like a place where I can create and explore without having to worry about spambots and/or advertisement. I also want to learn more about coding. I think dreamwidth offers something more raw that livejournal doesn’t in that area.
@Letomi: invite sent!
Do you use IRC? If you do, the best way to learn about coding on DW would be to join #dw on irc.dreamwidth.org and say “I’m interested in learning about coding on dreamwidth”. You will be mobbed by friendly, helpful people :) If you want somewhere safe to ask newbie questions without any embarrassment, try #dw_kindergarten. Also, I’m Skud on IRC, so feel free to /msg me personally.
Thank you so much!
I used to use it, but that was before I went off to college so it’s been a few years… I’ve probably forgotten everything I know. Ah, well, there are always tutorials for that stuff. I’ll gladly take your advice, thank you :) Hopefully I will see you on IRC sometime soon!
I’ve been hearing good things about this site and am curious about joining. I’m almost finished with college (studying graphic design), and I think getting involved with a creative community would be a great way to get ideas and talk to others. I’ve dabbled with CSS and HTML and have made a few websites, but I’d love to get my feet wet even more!
(That is if there are any codes left? Either way, it is good there are so many generous people)
Do you have an more invites? I’m female and I do artwork also very interested in coding.
@Lee, @Michelle: both sent!
Would very much appreciate an invite code.
I’m a 55 year old woman photographer, jewelry designer nd small-business owner. I just heard about Dreamwidth this AM on NPR. Thank you.
I thought I might take a chance and ask if you had any more invite codes… or knew anyone that did?
I’m a writer, a student, an AIDS/HIV activist, a woman, and a dreamer.
Thanks!
75% female developers. That is so on! I’d love to join that majority. Do you have any invite codes left? Even if you don’t, thanks for the heads up; this is exactly the kind of project I’m interested in.
@Demitria, @Jess, @Rebecca: all sent!
I wonder if you have any more codes left? Here’s Livia, an Italian IT student and fan writer. Thanks in advance.
If there’s any left (I know it was a while ago now that you had codes), I’d appreciate an invite? I’m looking for somewhere to archive my writing (both fiction and science articles) for an appreciative, thoughtful audience.
Hey!
I would love to join dreamwidth but I can’t pay for it since I have no credit card…
Is there any chance that you still have an invite code left?
I hope so! :D
I am a photographer and a woman, and I would love a code if you still have some. I want to share my photography in an advertising-free creative space.
I would love to have one, do you still have an extra? Please? Thank you in advance..
I’m sorry, I didn’t see right away. I’m female, 20, and I just graduated from college – BS Computer Science, I love programming. I’m also interested in writing and photography. I read lots of books of all genre. I’m an advocate of people with disabilities. (I can’t think of anything else at the moment, I hope this will do. :})
Hi I’m female aged 45, and am interested in learning about coding. Would love to get involved with a project in a safe environment where there are like-minded women
Hope you have some invites left. If not no worries
Thanks Tab x
